For instance, the gravestone symbol is particularly detrimental; it is commonly associated with death, which is contrary to the thriving image a business seeks to project.
While straight lines are not inherently negative, care must be taken to avoid splitting the logo into disjointed elements, which can symbolize fragmentation within the business. Similarly, wavy lines should be used cautiously; in one instance, a logo designed with curvy lines to depict topographical features resembled cracks, which is an undesirable implication for business operations.
Personal Symbols
Personal symbols derived from significant life events or anecdotes can impart unique meaning. From both graphic design and feng shui perspectives, these symbols allow for storytelling opportunities that resonate deeply with individuals. Such symbols can enhance brand recall and create strong narratives for small business owners.
For example, a playful monogram crafted from the initials HJA represents a client's childhood nickname, Umbrella Red. This symbol effectively connects his personal backstory with his brand, helping him stand out in his industry.

For instance, a construction engineering consultancy specializing in water management faced a dilemma: the elements of Earth and Water, when combined, create muddiness—an unfavorable situation for business. The solution? Incorporating a plug into the logo to symbolically drain excess water, thus mitigating the muddiness.
