Chapter 1: A Revelation of the Inner Child
Recently, I encountered my inner child in an unprecedented way, coinciding with the launch of a new webcomic. This creative outlet has become a means for me to express and explore those buried emotions.
Through my recent experiences with Peter Levine’s Somatic Experiencing therapy, I have begun to reconnect with feelings from my childhood that have long been dormant.
As I delve deeper into these familiar emotions, I realize how they have persistently haunted my subconscious throughout my life. Now, these feelings are finally being acknowledged.
For years, these old emotions have quietly fueled negative beliefs about my self-worth, which I’ve desperately tried to counteract through achievements and hard work. However, a shift is beginning to occur.
Feeling overwhelmed by fear and sorrow, my inner children are no longer willing to remain in the shadows. This has compelled me to face them and their narratives head-on. While the conventional wisdom suggests offering them the love and reassurance I lacked as a child, the reality is more complex.
I’ve struggled to convince myself of my worthiness. I’ve come to realize that these emotions have been sabotaging any fleeting feelings of self-acceptance, preventing me from truly believing I am okay. These sensations require more than just comforting affirmations; they need to be directly confronted, seen, and felt.
The goal is to sit with these childhood feelings and allow them to be explored openly. Through this process, I can recognize them for what they are—a physiological response to my upbringing—rather than a reflection of my true worth.
Sounds simple, right?
In reality, the journey is anything but easy. However, the reward lies in processing and releasing these outdated feelings, allowing me to fully engage with the present. This ambitious goal will demand ongoing effort and creativity.
