Exploring the Roots of Fancy: Heart vs. Mind
Written on
Chapter 1: The Essence of Fancy
The inquiry, "Where does fancy originate, in the heart or in the mind?" is a thought-provoking line attributed to Shakespeare.
As is often the case with Shakespearean quotes, there's a general consensus among readers that the Bard's words carry profound meaning. Indeed, the question itself often lends clarity: to cultivate fancy, one must engage their heart rather than their intellect.
Thinking and feeling are not the same.
To think is to use language. Each thought we entertain is framed in words. In essence, thinking might be better described as wording; it comprises the quest for the most suitable expression for our internal dialogues, regardless of whether we articulate them aloud. On the other hand, feeling transcends verbalization.
The essence of the universe—its energy, elements, flora, fauna, and even our own bodies—exists beyond words, yet they resonate with feelings. These entities lack the education to comprehend language, yet they embody emotions effortlessly.
How can one experience feelings without the intrusion of thought? The key lies in releasing the words associated with those feelings.
Returning to the notion of nurturing fancy, the process is simple: let go of the verbal labels and simply experience your emotions. Allow your heart to communicate through feelings rather than words.
If you’re unfamiliar with this approach, it may take time to adjust, but the transformation is invaluable. By shifting your perspective on language, you will unveil new landscapes within yourself, revealing that this journey of discovery is, in fact, your own evolution.
Trust not that you can dictate the direction of your heart; if your heart recognizes your worth, it will lead the way.
"Do not the petals flutter down just like that?" — A Buddhist perspective.
